“You have 12 hours to escape or I will eliminate you,” the Mossad phone call to the Iranian general

An Israeli Mossad agent thus addresses an Iranian general in the early hours of June 13, when Operation Rising Lion has just begun: Israel attacks Iran and rapidly eliminates a series of figures at the top of the Islamic Republic’s military. The Washington Post has obtained the audio of the call from the Mossad agent who, in perfect Persian, addresses the interlocutor. “I can warn you now, you have 12 hours to escape with your wife and child. Otherwise, you are on our list. We are closer to you than your jugular. Get that through your head, God protect you”, the message.

“I’ll explain it to you,” he says, “listen carefully. I’m calling from a country that two hours ago sent Bagheri, Salami, Shamkhani to hell, one after the other,” says the agent, reeling off the names of top figures eliminated in the operation. The general is asked to send a video in which he dissociates himself from the Tehran regime. “You have 12 hours to make a video in which you say that you have abandoned this government and that you don’t want to sacrifice your life for those who have been destroying the country for 46 years.

“How should I send it?” the general asks. “I will send you a Telegram ID. Send it. It seems you don’t understand: we have everything on you. We have eliminated the leaders. I make you this proposal to save your wife and child and you hesitate,” the peremptory instructions. It is unclear whether the video was actually sent. According to the Washington Post, the general is believed to still be alive in Iran.
